  LA-CAMFT invites you to the 3rd Annual Autumnal Event - LA-CAMFT SOCIAL CLUB: Self-Care Saturday Night – a networking hangout for mental health and related professionals. Sponsored by our friends at Lightfully.
  
  We want you to be a part of the LA-CAMFT Social Club and enjoy an evening of in-person connection and play on Saturday September 26th from 6:30pm-10:00pm at a private residence in Valley Glen (exact address provided upon registration).

  The MENA Therapists Community Group is a safe place across the Middle Eastern and North African therapist diaspora to build community and a sense of belonging. We hold an inclusive space to process the impact of cultural biases experienced by people of MENA descent and the effect it may have on our work as mental health professionals. Within the process, we will strive to create healing, support, and empowerment. We will collaboratively exchange ideas, experiences and resources while acknowledging cultural differences and shared similarities. As the poet Khalil Gibran states — “The reality of the other person lies not in what he reveals to you, but what he cannot reveal to you.” — our community will create a place to be seen, heard, and understood.

  Special Note: MENA Therapists Community Group meetings are intended as a place for MENA-identifying therapists to have a safe place amongst others in the same ethnic and cultural community to share and process their personal and professional experiences. Therapists from similar cultural backgrounds (e.g., South Asian, mixed identities that include MENA, etc.) are also welcome. If you are not MENA-identifying or from a similar cultural background and instead wish to join these meetings for the purpose of learning about the MENA population, we offer consultations separately.   Beyond Belief: Exploring Religion and Spirituality in Mental Health Care

  with Leanne Nettles, LMFT

  Religious and spiritual experiences and practices often have a profound impact on clients’ lives, serving as sources of hope, resilience, and meaning – and, at times, contributing to pain or harm. These experiences can shape how clients understand themselves and navigate healing. This training will provide foundational knowledge of major religious belief systems and build mental health providers’ confidence in thoughtfully approaching and integrating clients’ spiritual beliefs and experiences into assessment, diagnosis, case conceptualization, and treatment to support culturally responsive client-centered care.

  Educational Goals:

  Attendees will obtain an understanding of major religious belief systems and learn how to thoughtfully integrate clients’ spiritual beliefs into their mental health care.

  Learning Objectives:

  By the end of this presentation, attendees will be able to:

  1. Identify at least three major religious belief systems.
  2. Distinguish between religion and spirituality.
  3. Identify at least one way religion and spirituality may positively impact a client’s mental health and well-being, and at least one way they may negatively impact it.
  4. Describe at least one way to assess for and integrate clients’ religious and spiritual beliefs and experiences into clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning.

  Presenter:

  Leanne Nettles, LMFT (she/her) is a clinician, educator and advocate specializing in trauma-informed and culturally responsive mental health care. She is currently a Professor at Pacific Oaks College and serves as Clinical Director of K&S Therapeutic Services, Inc. Leanne has held leadership roles including Clinical Trainer, Program Manager, and Clinical Supervisor in community mental health organizations and has presented at the CAMFT Annual Conference and the Department of State Hospitals Multicultural Conference. She integrates spirituality, multiculturalism, and expressive arts into her clinical and educational work and has provided trainings on a wide variety of topics supporting whole-person, culturally responsive care.

  The goal of White Therapists Fighting Racism (WTFR) is for white-identified therapists to become effective allies in support of decolonization and racial justice in our clinical practice, therapy association, and community. Recognizing that racism is maintained when whiteness is invisible to white people, WTFR provides a forum for white-identified therapists to explore what it means to be white. While this process includes learning about structural racism and deconstructing the false narrative about race, a primary focus in the group is on doing inner work.

  Join LA-CAMFT for "Beyond the Therapy Room: Protest Safety and Preparedness for Mental Health Professionals", a members-only training developed specifically for our community on Friday, October 23rd from 1:00pm-3:00pm, at Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena.

  As mental health professionals, we understand that the wellbeing of the people and communities we serve is shaped by larger social systems. Advocacy can take many forms, from helping an individual client navigate an inequitable system to legislative efforts, community involvement, public education, organizing, and protest.

  For those who choose to participate in demonstrations, however, knowing why you want to show up is different from knowing how to prepare. What should you bring? What should you expect? How can you recognize when crowd dynamics are changing? What should you know about interactions with law enforcement? And how can you make thoughtful decisions when a situation begins to escalate?

  Few mental health professionals receive practical training in how to prepare for and safely navigate protest environments.

  Developed specifically for LA-CAMFT, Beyond the Therapy Room: Protest Safety and Preparedness for Mental Health Professionals is designed to help change that.

  Led by an experienced trainer and longtime member of CAT-911 Collective (LA, Riverside), this program will provide practical strategies for approaching demonstrations with greater awareness and preparedness.

  Participants will explore:

  • Preparing before a protest, including what to bring and what to consider before arriving
  • Situational awareness and understanding your surroundings
  • Crowd dynamics and recognizing signs of escalating risk
  • Practical approaches to de-escalation
  • Considerations when interacting with law enforcement
  • Personal safety and responding when circumstances change
  • Making informed decisions about when to stay, move, disengage, or leave

  Whether you have participated in protests for years, are considering attending one for the first time, or simply want a better understanding of protest environments, you are welcome.

  Our goal is to help you leave feeling more informed, prepared, and empowered to make your own choices about civic engagement. If protest is one of the ways you feel called to advocate, uncertainty about how to participate more safely does not have to make that choice for you.

  The MENA Therapists Community Group is a safe place across the Middle Eastern and North African therapist diaspora to build community and a sense of belonging. We hold an inclusive space to process the impact of cultural biases experienced by people of MENA descent and the effect it may have on our work as mental health professionals. Within the process, we will strive to create healing, support, and empowerment. We will collaboratively exchange ideas, experiences and resources while acknowledging cultural differences and shared similarities. As the poet Khalil Gibran states — “The reality of the other person lies not in what he reveals to you, but what he cannot reveal to you.” — our community will create a place to be seen, heard, and understood.

  Special Note: MENA Therapists Community Group meetings are intended as a place for MENA-identifying therapists to have a safe place amongst others in the same ethnic and cultural community to share and process their personal and professional experiences. Therapists from similar cultural backgrounds (e.g., South Asian, mixed identities that include MENA, etc.) are also welcome. If you are not MENA-identifying or from a similar cultural background and instead wish to join these meetings for the purpose of learning about the MENA population, we offer consultations separately. You are more than welcome to schedule a one-on-one consultation by emailing us.

  Join LA-CAMFT for our ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARTY on December 13th from 12:00pm-3:00pm at the beautiful Clearview Treatment Programs facilities in Venice.

  All are invited to gather together in celebration of another year for our community!

  Please join us for delicious food, laughter, and musical merriment with your LA-CAMFT friends and colleagues. If you want to bring something, let us know!

  Every year, newly licensed therapists become part of our community and LA-CAMFT acknowledges the grit, resilience, and patience it takes to become licensed. Hence why we have a special tradition of honoring Newly Licensed therapists. You do not need to be an LA-CAMFT member to participate! If you received your license in 2026, and would like to be a part of this ceremony, PLEASE register for the Holiday Party and confirm your interest in participating. Many of us have been through that process, and we know what it takes to get through it. It would be an honor to celebrate this great accomplishment with you.

  Moreover, come meet our current and newly elected LA-CAMFT Board of Directors, and community leaders!

  Registration fee goes towards food, beverages, and health/safety considerations. If this fee is cost-prohibitive, we would still like to find a way for you to join us, so please email me if this is the case.

  The goal of White Therapists Fighting Racism (WTFR) is for white-identified therapists to become effective allies in support of decolonization and racial justice in our clinical practice, therapy association, and community. Recognizing that racism is maintained when whiteness is invisible to white people, WTFR provides a forum for white-identified therapists to explore what it means to be white. While this process includes learning about structural racism and deconstructing the false narrative about race, a primary focus in the group is on doing inner work.
